‘CATECHISM’ originated from Greek meaning to teach orally. It is a summary or exposition of doctrine and serves as a learning introduction to the Sacraments traditionally used in catechesis, or Christian religious teaching of children and adult converts. ‘Sunday Catechism’ is an integral part of any Catholic Church and its good functioning portrays the robust health of the Parish.Holy Trinity Cathedral has over the years been in the forefront for providing value based Sunday Catechism to its children, with the help of the Sunday Catechism Teachers under the able guidance of the Vicars and textbooks provided by the Diocese.

The Sunday Catechism classes are conducted on every Sunday except on certain feast days and during the annual vacation. The classes start with the Rosary at 8.00 AM followed by Mass. After the Mass the children go to their respective classes for a duration of 2 hours, which also includes the conducting of programs of pious organisations like the CML and Holy Childhood.

Activities

  • The Sunday Catechism School functions under the Director who is the Rev.Vicar of the Parish, the Asst. Vicars along with the Sunday Catechism Headmistress and Catechism Teachers.
  • There are about 20 teachers which also includes 4 nuns, who voluntarily offer their free service for the faith formation of the children of the parish.
  • There are in all about 400 children who attend the Sunday Catechism classes. Periodical examinations are conducted to sustain the interest and knowledge of the children.
  • Many programs like retreats, seminars, picnic, social outreach programs, competitions etc. are conducted throughout the year for the benefit and moral growth of the children.
  • An Intensive Catechism program is conducted for 3 days during the vacation for a revitalisation of the Catechism values.
  • A Parent – Teacher Association comprising of the parents of the Sunday Catechism children and Teachers is formed every year for the fruitful functioning of the Sunday Catechism School. As the first formators of children are the Parents, their important role in this regard cannot be undermined.
